Irfan Ali’s story is inspiring. It was just eight years ago that he first moved to Shivaji Nagar – purchasing a dwelling only to find that it would be torn down every three months. Irfan began mobilising other residents, and thanks to continued advocacy, ensured that Adarsh Nagar was recognised as a settlement – and houses were no longer demolished.
Graphic Designer, Pooja Dingra brought this powerful story to life in a comic strip.
Irfan has been part of the Disability Prevention and Support programme of Apnalaya for the past five years, where he is an advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. Affected by polio at the age of two, Irfan was rendered 75 % physically handicapped – but he has not let that stop him in life!
Today he handles over 150 queries a month and is part of an organizational survey to identify new cases of disability in Shivaji Nagar. He is the ‘go-to’ person for all documents and assistance for persons with disabilities.
